Multicultural Dimensions
and i came across this Multicultural Dimensions article in my core text book.
Consumer Behaviour
-A European Perspective- 3rd edn
Solomon et al. (2006)
FT Prentice Hall - Pearson Education - Essex
This is what it written....
In controversial to control the size of population, The People's Republic of China offers many incentives for parents to have only one child. One by-product of this campaign is that some claim the country is producing a pampared generation of spoiled only children, who are called 'little emperors' (皇帝仔). Parents are trying to give these offspring a rich childhood which they themselves didn't enjoy during the dark days of Cultural Revolution. They are spending a very large portion of family income on toys, books and computers. Baby food, which didn't exist in China a couple of decades ago, is now a major budget item.
Of course, the Chinese are not alone in viewing the child as a status symbol. Infant wear and other items for toddlers has become a $23 billion business in North America and Western Europe. Dual-career couples are waiting longer to start a family and thus are able to spend more on them - the number of women aged 30 or over when the first child is born has quadrupled since 1970, and the number of first children born to women over 40 has more than doubled. As a result, children's designer clothing is booming - Versace sells a $250 black motorcycle jacket for the junior James Dean, and Nicole Miller offers a $150 cocktail dress for the petite femme fatale. And infants are not being left out: Ralph Lauren sells a cashmere blanket for $350, L.L. Bean, the direct marketer of outdoor gear, has added toddler snow suits to its catalogues, and Nike is marketing a line of toddler athletic wear.

The Phantom Of The Opera
April 16th, 2008
The students of Sekolah Seri Suria are proud to present the classic drama "The Phantom of the Opera". This drama is adapted from the compulsory English Literature text "The Phantom of the Opera" used by the Senior 2 students. The staging of this drama truly showcases what R.E.A.L education stands for — Result Enhancing through Active Learning. Our intentions are to illustrate our unique teaching methodology in bringing the literature characters to life, as well as to stimulate the flagging interest in English literature in this new generation of students.
Directed by R. Sivagurunathan, this drama allows the students to have a better appreciation of music and drama. The whole team is involved in the production and through participation is building qualities of confidence, teamwork, perseverance, responsibility, dedication, passion, and creativity.
Proceeds of the tickets sales will be donated to the Selangor and Federal Territory Association for Retarded Children.
The venue for "The Phantom of the Opera" is at Sekolah Seri Suria's HALL OF CHARACTER.
